Seven years ago, out of the blue, I had a heart attack, in which I had to rush to hospital and I had two stents inserted in my heart and was quite poorly for a while and took several months to recover. Even just going out as well, I lost a bit of confidence going out the door, so it all took time for my body to heal, literally, and for my confidence to come back and start picking up the threads of a normal life again. You just need to take small steps on the road to recovery really. I found a lot of the information I got from British Heart Foundation was very helpful. They at the time time had loads of little booklets, which I used a lot to help me. Family and friends that you have also help you along that road. You know, they’re very encouraging and always lift my spirits Last year, after 45 years of marriage, sadly my husband passed away. Unfortunately he’d developed lung cancer. We had many years of fantastic travels, which left me with some brilliant memories. Travelling the world and meeting new people and discovering new things. Since my heart attack, I have restarted travelling again. I’ve got a lot of really great friends who invite me to different places. I haven’t let the heart attack stop me from doing anything. I’ve given myself time to completely recover and heal, but I’ve picked up the reins of my life. If you get big knocks, occasionally you know, you do have to pick yourself up, dust yourself off and get going again and travel is a wonderful way of helping me to move forward. Don’t give up or anything and start working towards an exciting future.
