I love Dr. Greger too. My wife and I grind flax seeds every 2 or 3 days and keep it fresh in the refrigerator. We add it to our oatmeal every morning. Great source of ω-3 fatty acid, alpha-linolenic acid.

Ground flaxseed will become rancid fairly quickly when air gets at it. Keep it in the freezer or buy whole seeds and grind what you need in a coffee grinder when you take it. 2T. a day, I'm trying this.

You need to get more potassium in your body up to 4700 mg a day to balance it out. Sodium should be no more than 2300 mg a day. The proportion of salt to potassium is the secret. Always use good sea salt rather than table salt with chemicals in it.

That's a lot of flax seed which can have serious laxative effects in many people.I personally maintain my blood pressure with two daily tablespoons of Salba in addition to a magnesium spray down when I get out of the shower.It's just easier and sustainable to incorporate into your lifestyle.

Flaxseed is high in phytoestrogen. This will lower testosterone in men, increase cancer risk, increase depression and moodiness, and will destroy your endocrine system, increasing risk for gallbladder disease, hypo/hyper thyroidism.

Flaxseed needs to be ground to have the best benefit. It’s called flaxseed meal. Has a short shelf life though, best to grind yourself in a small coffee grinder. Golden is the best.

The book is 4 year old. The old advice has turned our nation into a fleet of blimps. Low salt, low fat diets have killed people. Almost everything they told us was "dead" wrong. Do your own research, and "look out the window". Find out what thin healthy people are doing and why they live so long and well. Just a note; The study they did in southern USA that showed the more fried food they ate the healthier they were and the longer they lived. It was tossed.

Everyone's different…Some can eat anything and never get sick, while others get sick eating healthy foods. I used flaxseed daily, but my bp just chuckled, and continued terrorizing me. I sit in the sun between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm for 20 mins, and VOILA my bp flees! So it's different strokes for different folks.

Buy the whole seeds and grind them. Store bought ground flax seeds do not stay fresh – it's oil turns very quickly. Also keep all in the frig. Best wishes!
I use flaxseeds in my smoothies. I buy whole seeds (flax, hemp, chia…) and grind them when I need them. I'll grind the seeds first before adding any produce or liquid. I, also, keep them in the refrigerator in their whole form.

I don't know. I've been using 1/8 cup of flaxseed meal on my greek or bulgarian whole milk yogurt several times a week for about 5 years, but haven't noticed any difference in my blood pressure. The only thing I've noticed that works is a very brisk "power walk" of about 45-60 minutes. That drops it substantially. I also recommend reading "The Salt Fix" by James DiNicolantonio for some thoughts on salt's lack of affect on blood pressure, potassium's beneficial effect and sugar's negative effects.
