Meet Dr. Peter McSweeney | Colorado Blood Cancer Institute

(calm music) – CBCI is a practice
that caters to the needs of patients with blood cancers. It includes a team of
experienced physicians and a very large team of nursing staff, psychologists, mid-level practitioners, all working together, trying to get the best
results for our patients. I decided to become a
physician because I thought working with people was a
very rewarding thing to do and medicine was certainly
a very interesting occupation to be in. I rotated through a number
of sub-specialties as a medical student and
post-medical student trainee, and I found hematology
oncology was exciting and you have patients who are younger, and really needed the help
and I thought we were in a dynamic field that was
moving very quickly. I try and build my
relationships with patients by initially being very thorough with them and giving them plenty of time, trying to connect on some
kind of personal basis. And then I have a time allowing them to develop trust in me and
feel comfortable about me. People should come to CBCI because we present a really
well-rounded program, we have a very strong team of physicians with lots of experience in the
treatment of blood cancers, we have a well organized
in-patient, out-patient service. It’s been a very well
thought out operation developed over a number of years with people who really
have a lot of experience in this area. We also have a good
number of research studies that we can make available to patients. So overall it’s a cohesive and avant-garde type organization. Well I like to hang out with my family. I like to exercise, play golf, and travel. In between all that, if I can squeeze in a
few books that’s great. (calm music)
