Meet Dr. Mark W. Brunvand | Colorado Blood Cancer Institute

(acoustic music) – I think I’ve always had
compassion for patients and for other people and trying to
understand how people deal with adversity whether it be
getting stuck on a mountain, in a climbing accident, or
whether it be dealing with a loved one that’s got cancer. One of the interesting
parts about butt cancers, is that they’re highly
compelling diseases. And they’re diseases that
people don’t do anything to get. They’re just walking along
being good citizens one day, and then the next day
they find out they’ve got a potentially very serious disease. And so being able to help
people as they deal with the adversity of these really
really traumatic diseases and trying to deal them out
of respect and knowledge. You mystify the horrifying
stories that people hear about relatives that have had
leukemia 20 years ago. Sometimes they can go very bad. But many times, especially
when you apply you know, your intellect and your compassion. You can find solutions to really really devastating diseases. And that is one of the most gratifying experiences that I’ve had in life. And I’m thankful that I’ve had
a career where I could focus on difficult problems and
help people beat adversity. And trying to use humanity,
heart, and thoughtfulness to take care of these difficult diseases. I’m blessed with a wonderful family. We live in one of the most
beautiful places in the world. So I like to get outdoors
as much as possible. I ski, climb, and just enjoy the outdoors. (acoustic music)
