Irish Cancer Society announces funding for major new cancer research scholarships

Hi my name is John Daly, I’m a researcher at NUI Galway I’m doing a PhD project investigating new treatment techniques for multiple myeloma. Hi my name is Conor, I’m from Galway I’m funded by the Irish Cancer Society to do a PhD in the area of oesophageal cancer research looking specifically at people who undergo surgery for cancer and the side effects they have in the long run. Each year about 250 new patients are diagnosed with multiple myeloma About 170 patients die every year So using the patient’s own immune cells we hope to come up with a new treatment technique to combat the resistant myeloma cells. I’m planning to do a PhD in the area of oesophageal cancer research, specifically looking at people who undergo surgery for cancer and how they fare in the longer term, and the symptoms they have. I’d like to thank all the donations and all the support for the Irish Cancer Society to make this funding scholarship possible. And I’d like to sincerely express my gratitude to all the people who donate to the Irish Cancer Society
