How to tell a heart attack from indigestion?

(upbeat chime music) (acid reflux vs heart attack) – [Announcer] If you felt
discomfort in your chest, would you think you were
having severe heartburn or a heart attack? When most people think of a heart attack, they think of a sudden extreme pain, but many times it can be much more subtle. And that’s not so easy to
distinguish from heartburn. Some of the symptoms
may feel very much alike because both involve chest pains. The difference is their cause. With heartburn, it’s just
digestive acid moving into the esophagus. The heart attack is caused by
the reduction of blood flow to the heart. Here are some of the symptoms
to help you determine if you’re experiencing a heart attack and not simply heartburn. Pain, squeezing, feeling
pressure, tightness, or an aching sensation in either the chest or even your arms. Indigestion, heartburn,
abdominal pain, nausea, or even vomiting are also quite common. You may also encounter
a shortness of breath, extreme fatigue, cold sweats, or sudden dizzy spells,
or lightheadedness. In some cases, you may also
feel tightness in the jaw, or back pain along with many of the symptoms previously mentioned. It’s important to know the symptoms and seek a doctor’s
professional assessment to determine if you’re
having a heart attack. If you’re experiencing
persistent chest pain or you are having any of
the symptoms described, call 911 and seek emergency medical care. (learn more at Turn4TheBetter.com)
