How do you know if you are dehydrated

We know that during the hot summer months,
or after exercise, we need more water, right. But did you know we can dehydrate even when
the weather turns dry and cold? I’m Sharon at BonVie Weight Loss & Nutritional
Wellness to talk about dehydration, and how it affects our health. Simply what that means is you lose more water
than you consume, making it harder for your body to do some basic jobs, like keeping your
temperature steady and clearing out waste. When you sweat, cry, and every time you go
to the bathroom, even breathing, you lose hydration. Since more than half your body weight comes
from water, if you are under hydrated it can affect you in lots of ways. Like feeling tired, headachey, and affecting
mood and focus. And after a big sweat at the gym you could
feel light headed due to low blood pressure. So how do you know you are dehydrated? The bad news is that by the time you feel
the urge to quench your thirst, you already are. The good news: as long as you respond to that
signal and do drink water you can immediately rehydrate. For older adults, that signal may take a little
longer to register as your sense of thirst gets duller with age so practice good habits
early in life. Like helping your baby develop a taste for
pure clean water when they are very little . Water in a baby bottle is much better than
fruit juice for a whole host of reasons. Also if you are ill you can lose about a gallon
of water a day , and, some health conditions like Kidney disease can seriously dehydrate
you. What are symptoms of dehydration? Thirst of course, your mouth might even feel
dry or sticky, and you won’t pee very often — under 4 times a day. When you do there may be a scant amount, be
dark or have a strong smell. If it’s bad you may feel dizzy or lightheaded,
even pass out and as you overheat you might feel confused or cranky, and your breathing
and heart rate may be faster than normal. Obviously drinking lots of water is the solution. But for some people that is a real challenge. Tune in to our next video for tips on how
