CDC: 30 Percent Of People Have High Blood Pressure, Only Half Have It Under Control


ON THE HEALTHWATCH TONIGHT A NEW REPORT ON GOVERNMENT HEALTH OFFICIALS GIVES AMERICANS POOR GRADES WHEN IT COMES TO MANAGING HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE. HEALTH REPORTER STEPHANIE STAHL IS HERE WITH MORE ON THE NEW RESEARCH. REPORTER: THIS IS A BIG PROBLEM, BECAUSE HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE, IS A MAJOR RISK FACTOR FOR HEART ATTACKS AND STROKES, SOMETHING THAT 85 MILLION AMERICANS STRUGGLE WITH AND DOCTORS SAY THAT PART OF THE PROBLEM IS THERE ARE USUALLY NO SYMPTOMS. HE WAS DIAGNOSED WITH HYPERTENSION 10 YEARS AGO, HE SAYS THAT STRESS AT WORK CONTRIBUTED TO THE PROBLEM. I USED TO PUT IN LONG HOURS , A LOT OF STRESS. REPORTER: ACCORDING TO THE NEW CDC REPORT APPROXIMATELY 30 PERCENT OF AMERICANS HAVE HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE AND ABOUT HALF OF THEM, DON’T HAVE IT UNDER CONTROL. YOU CAN HAVE HEART ATTACKS FROM THAT, YOU CAN HAVE AN INCREASED INCIDENCE OF STROKE.
